Pierce County Council adopts committee and external-board appointments, approves consent agenda

Vice Chair Herrera moved to approve the consent agenda, which included an appointment to the Sound Transit Regional Transit Authority board and minutes from prior meetings; the clerk recorded a roll-call vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays and the motion was adopted. The council then moved to consider two resolutions affecting internal committee assignments and external-board appointments.
Councilmember Bridal introduced Proposal R2025-229, a resolution establishing council standing committees, memberships and officers for 2026. Jeff Cox, council staff, said the amendment before the council simply "fills in the blanks" by adding the names of members to each committee. Council Amendment No. 1 — which included a chairmanship swap between Councilmembers Ayala and Morrell and populated committee rosters — was moved and approved. The clerk recorded a 7-0 roll-call vote to adopt R2025-229 as amended.
Vice Chair Herrera moved Proposal R2025-228, which makes appointments of council members and staff to positions on external boards, commissions and committees for 2026. Cox noted that Exhibit A lists the names and that an amendment edits several entries discussed previously in a study session. Council Amendment No. 1 to R2025-228 was adopted and the resolution passed on a 7-0 roll-call vote.
Council members said they appreciated the time commitment board and commission service requires and thanked colleagues for accepting the assignments. There were no public speakers on the consent items or the resolutions during the public-comment period for those agenda items.
The council’s action finalizes who will serve on standing committees and represent Pierce County on external bodies for the year; the resolutions take effect as adopted and no further votes were scheduled on these items at the meeting’s close.
