Davis County approves ICAC participation, highway-safety overtime and routine consent items
Summary
The commission approved agreements letting sheriffs detectives participate in the Utah ICAC task force and an overtime receivable with the Utah Department of Public Safety for highway enforcement. Item 7 formalizes Davis Countys participation with the Utah Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force; the county would be reimbursed based on time and workload when detectives are assigned. Captain West described the task force as providing collateral assignments and partial reimbursement to participating agencies.
Item 8 is an overtime agreement with the Utah Department of Public Safety Highway Safety Office to support high-visibility enforcement (DUI enforcement, blitzes, seat-belt and speed enforcement) for the period 10/01/2025 through 09/30/2026. Captain West and Chief Butcher emphasized these programs are receivables and will only proceed when the sheriffs office has available staffing hours.
A commissioner highlighted staffing stress in the sheriffs office and warned that county budget choices and retirements could reduce service levels; the commissioner referenced a $6,000,000 figure tied to criminal justice/public-safety funding concerns during the discussion. Commissioners moved and approved items 7 and 8.
The commission then approved consent items 9 through 14 by voice vote. The meeting recessed to the Board of Equalization; Scott Park presented the weekly register (28 appeals; auditor and assessor corrections noted). The register was approved and commissioners reconvened the commission meeting. The chair closed with remarks about community engagement and adjourned at 10:34 a.m.
