Council simplifies Tacoma Narrows Airport Advisory Commission membership, adds ex‑officio seats

The Pierce County Council unanimously approved changes to the Tacoma Narrows Airport Advisory Commission (TNAC) that adjust member composition, broaden definitions of community and airport user representatives, and add three nonvoting ex‑officio seats.
Tom Swanson, a policy analyst, told the council the proposal redistributes two voting seats previously reserved for PenMet Parks to community members and airport users (keeping a total of 10 voting members), broadens the definitions for the categories to improve recruitment, and creates three new nonvoting ex‑officio positions for PenMet Parks, a nearby fire/Medic unit, and the Peninsula School District. The code would also be revised to use standardized language for vacancies and removal of members, and the ordinance sets an effective date of January 1.
Carl Hicks, chair of TNAC, addressed the council in support of the change, saying those seats have sometimes gone unfilled and that simplifying the membership will help ensure a full, working commission. Council member Denson moved the ordinance and highlighted TNAC’s volunteer work and role in airport planning. The council adopted O2025‑574 with a 7–0 roll‑call vote.
