Town staff reported March 3 that Westborough applied to the Central Mass Municipal Planning Organization (CMMPO) for a microgrant to install 20 new bike racks (two bikes per rack, 40 spaces) at two priority locations: the north side of Route 9 near recreational facilities and a downtown cluster south of Route 9. The proposed downtown sites are close to the high school, library, town offices and retail, while the north‑Route 9 cluster serves recreation venues and a 55+ housing community.
Staff said the project supports goals in the town's complete streets, master plan and climate action planning documents and would improve short‑trip bike options, reduce local vehicle trips and highlight active‑transportation investments. If the grant advances through the second round and is awarded, funds would arrive in October 2025 and the town would have until September 2026 to implement the racks. The board received the update without substantive objection and encouraged staff to proceed with outreach and siting.
