Coos Bay School District reports testing, events and staffing updates

Warren, representing the Coos Bay School District, briefed the council on academics and recent events at district schools.
Warren reported recent standardized testing (SAT and PSAT) took place on the 29th and noted participation in the Southern Oregon Trades Expo (about 110 attendees) and a college and career fair (56 attendees). Warren also said the FAFSA is open to help students apply for scholarships and college.
The presentation listed extracurricular schedules and achievements: more than 350 students attended the homecoming dance (ticketed at $30), seniors Devon Peterson and Maya Johnson were named homecoming king and queen, girls volleyball is ranked second in the state, and winter sports registration opens Nov. 17. Warren and quoted students and staff to illustrate program impacts and singled out new staff hires in culinary, English, resource and independent skills instruction.
The district asked councilors to note the calendar of parent-teacher conferences in November and thanked the council for the opportunity to present.
