Committee moves toward awarding Sankey Park trail work; Timber Framers Guild to lead bandstand design

The Sweet Home Park and Tree Committee reported significant progress on Sankey Park Phase 3 at its Nov. 19 meeting, saying committee members are reviewing proposals for the trail system and expect to award the work soon while the Timber Framers Guild continues to finalize a traditional timber‑frame bandstand design.

A committee member said the City separated bids so the Timber Framers Guild can be awarded the bandstand directly while the trail system is bid separately. The guild is preparing a materials list and cost estimate and will send the preliminary design to an engineer to confirm structural loads before a broader public design review.

The committee indicated it will seek a short grant extension by the end of the month to maintain the project schedule, which would extend the work window into June. Members said the timber‑frame bandstand may incorporate locally donated mill materials and includes an educational component: the guild plans to bring instructors and trainees to demonstrate traditional timber‑framing techniques.

Committee members said they will wait for the materials list and the engineer’s review before presenting final designs to the public and that timeline pressure remains because grant and construction deadlines are approaching. No contract award was finalized at the meeting.

What happens next: staff will complete proposal review, pursue a notice of award for the trail work, and return to the committee with the Timber Framers Guild’s engineered design and materials list for public review.
