Urban Renewal Agency approves $13,000 matching grant for St. Hilda’s sidewalk repairs (7–0)

The Monmouth Urban Renewal Agency on Dec. 2 approved a $12,992.50 general assistance grant (rounded to $13,000) to help pay half the cost of sidewalk, driveway approach and stair repairs at St. Hilda’s Episcopal Church, 245 Main Street West.
Community and Economic Development Director Suzanne Duffner told the agency the application provided contractor estimates, photos documenting deteriorated sidewalk conditions and evidence of a matching contribution from the Episcopal Diocese’s board of trustees. Duffner said the work is consistent with the urban renewal plan goals to make cohesive downtown infrastructure improvements and improve pedestrian safety.
Councilor Ridgeway moved approval and Councilor Lopez seconded. Phyllis called the roll; the motion passed unanimously, 7–0. Staff noted $45,000 was budgeted for urban renewal grants this fiscal year and this is the first award.
What’s next: staff will finalize grant documents and the applicant can begin work once permits and contractors are in place.
