Davis County approves event incentives, surplus-parcel disposals and an air-monitoring lease

County leaders approved incentives and agreements for sports and conference events, authorized surplus-parcel notices to return property to tax rolls or facilitate exchanges, and approved a lease with the state to upgrade an air-monitoring station at the Antelope Island causeway.
The Davis County Commission approved multiple community and economic development measures on Dec. 9, including event incentive agreements, surplus property actions and an interagency lease for upgraded air-quality monitoring.
Kent Anderson, director of community and economic development, described agreements with League1 Volleyball (Love b) for a Salt Lake preseason women’s indoor volleyball event (receivable $1,000), an incentive package with USA Wrestling to bring seven events to Davis County (payable $14,000 across 2025–26), and a $12,000 incentive for the Davis Conference Center to host the Rocky Mountain Association of (affairs) annual convention in 2026. Anderson said some events require hotel-night minimums and are intended to drive tourism-related revenue.
The commission also approved the disposition and quick-claim deeds for a remnant parcel (tax ID 10-087-0003) struck to the county for delinquent taxes in 2005; staff has negotiated transfers to 11 adjacent property owners to return the land to private ownership and the tax rolls. Anderson said another surplus-parcel action (tax IDs 6168020 and 3036067) will facilitate a drain project in North Salt Lake and a property exchange with Bountiful City to support library parking.
The board approved a lease with the State of Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management to place upgraded air-monitoring equipment on county land at the Antelope Island causeway. Kent Anderson said the upgraded station will move from once-a-day readings to live, continuous readings and the lease term runs through Nov. 30, 2030.
Commissioners approved items on the consent agenda after questions and brief clarifications from staff. Chair Maureen Kamalu thanked county staff and highlighted that tourism funds — not the general fund — support the county’s Western Sports Park operations.
The commission approved the items on a voice vote and directed staff to proceed with the agreements and conveyances.
