Select Board reorders warrant, closes articles and schedules budget review ahead of town meeting

The Select Board reviewed the final annual town-meeting warrant, discussed the order of articles and agreed to reorder borrowing items so voters encounter large borrowing requests earlier in the warrant; the library trust’s request to move the library borrowing article earlier was a principal driver of the reordering. The board voted to place the articles on the warrant with the updated numbering and closed the warrant for additional petitioning.
Members also discussed the timing for review of departmental budget reductions. The Advisory Finance Committee (AFC) requested staff present proposed budget cuts on March 6; the Select Board agreed to meet earlier (March 4) to hear cuts and then participate in a joint or tri-board meeting as appropriate. The board agreed to hold additional sessions as needed to finalize the AFC recommendations before the budget book deadline.
The board asked staff to invite proponents of citizen-petitioned warrant articles to provide summary presentations so the Select Board can hear questions in advance of town meeting. The board also confirmed town election on March 11 and annual town meeting on March 22.
