Environment committee votes to print draft bill based on BEP triennial water quality review

The Joint Standing Committee on Environment and Natural Resources voted to have staff print and refer a draft committee bill that incorporates recommendations from the Board of Environmental Protection's triennial review of water quality standards.
Legislative analyst Dan Tartakoff told members the draft reflects the BEP's majority recommendations and that printing the bill would allow the standard legislative process to provide a public hearing and further committee action. "The committee has not taken a position on the substance of the bill," Tartakoff said; reporting the bill out will simply get it a bill number and place it on the calendar.
Representative Bill Brigillo moved the procedural action; Representative Vicki Dudera seconded. The chair conducted a straw show-of-hands poll and recorded a majority in favor. Tartakoff said printing and scheduling typically take several weeks, and a public hearing would likely occur in late February or March.
The committee will take up the printed bill at a future meeting for public testimony and any subsequent work sessions.
