County staff told the board the ordinance would create a dedicated checking account and separate funds to keep grant proceeds segregated from the county’s general fund, a common requirement of state and federal grant awards. “This kind of allows us to get at least some of the preliminaries on that grant,” county staff said during the presentation.
The board approved the preliminary grant project ordinance on a voice vote after a brief discussion. Staff emphasized the vote keeps the grant “in our court” but does not require immediate expenditure; the county may decide later whether to execute the full project.
The proposal was presented as two related grant awards. Staff explained the grants are intended to ensure equipment obtained for emergency response remains under roof and in climate-controlled storage so it can be deployed and maintained in good condition.
Next steps include creation of the designated accounts and formal acceptance procedures so the county can receive the funds if and when it determines to proceed to construction or equipment purchase. No specific construction contract was approved at the meeting.
The board included the grant project ordinance action in its consent of agenda items and recorded the motion and voice approval in the minutes. The county manager and finance staff will return with subsequent steps if the county moves to expend the awards.
