Baldwin students give sneak preview of Footloose; district highlights cross‑age participation

The Baldwin Union Free School District opened its Nov. 12 board meeting with a preview performance from the high‑school musical Footloose and an invitation to the community to attend the Nov. 20–22 run. Director Tricia Wilder introduced the segment and actor David Kreuz, who performed a scene portraying Reverend Shaw Moore and described the show’s themes of community, connection and youth empowerment.
"The story centers around a small town where dancing is banned, and one determined teenager reminds the town that joy and music can bring people together," David Kreuz said during the preview. The program included middle‑school students who will join four performances this season; the district also noted prior outreach performances for Brookside PTA and Plowden PTA.
Board members and students said the preview reflects continued investment in performing arts and student leadership. The district named several student leaders who performed and noted student‑government officers Leah Smith (vice president) and Edith Clark (treasurer) took part in the production. Organizers said tickets are available online and at the door, with senior citizens admitted free to the opening show at 4 p.m. on Nov. 20.
The preview was followed by brief remarks on student engagement and fundraising activity, including club drives for hurricane relief. The district encouraged the public to attend the scheduled performances and thanked PTA partners for hosting earlier previews.
