Teacher urges action on class sizes and special education during legislative committee meeting

Amanda Thompson, an ESD teacher and member of the Turnagain/Grandview communities, addressed the Assembly Legislative Committee during audience participation on Oct. 23 and urged the committee to press the state on classroom sizes and special‑education supports.
"A lot of teachers are really concerned about their high classroom numbers," Thompson said, adding that accountability for how special education is handled would benefit teachers, families and students. She also told the committee she was concerned about moves that could limit community council voice at the municipal and state level.
Assembly members invited Thompson to follow up by email; members and staff noted the committee’s interest in incorporating education concerns into broader district and legislative priorities.
