Mark Myers, mayor of Greenwood, said on behalf of the city “we would be honored to have this portion of US 31 dedicated to Aaron Smith.” Indiana State Police Superintendent Scott thanked the committee, calling Smith’s sacrifice “noble” and “honorable.”
The committee recorded a roll call and approved the resolution 9-0. Several law enforcement officials attended the hearing in support, and no amendments or provisos were recorded in the committee transcript. The resolution asks the Indiana Department of Transportation to rename the specified section of U.S. 31.
