Sherwood mayor warns of TriMet cuts affecting edge communities; work session planned

Sherwood — At the Jan. 6 Sherwood City Council meeting, Mayor Rosner warned that planned TriMet service reductions could materially affect Sherwood and other "edge" communities that rely on supplemental county-run bus services.
Mayor Rosner said he had met with a member of the TriMet-related board and described funding for Washington County services that augment TriMet as "at risk." He said TriMet is focused on larger service areas such as Portland and Beaverton, and that smaller edge cities may be left behind. "So we'll have a work session to go through that detail and talk about what we want to do," the mayor said, announcing staff will schedule a work session to explore options.
Rosner also reminded the council that Oregon’s short legislative session starts Feb. 3 and observed that senators and representatives are limited in bill filings during the short session. He urged the council and staff to monitor pending legislation and referenced the Metro Mayors Consortium and the League of Oregon Cities as active in advocacy.
Finally, the mayor noted two local ballot measures on the upcoming ballot that would amend the city charter to (1) enshrine citizens’ rights to public hearings on land use decisions and (2) protect procedural rights around annexations. He urged voters to review mailed information and participate in the election process.
