At the Oct. 16 meeting the council opened bids for the Moroni Opera House barrier wall project and received a single submission from Richton Construction dated Oct. 14 for $73,000.
Council members said they had hoped for a lower price and declined to award the contract at the meeting. Staff described the physical intent of the barrier — a roughly 4-foot wall in front of the opera house to prevent vehicles from entering the building area — and noted that state highway standards constrain temporary roadside barriers. Councilmembers said they will continue to press state authorities for a longer-term roadside solution and consider alternatives such as rock placement or other protective measures.
Recorder staff confirmed only one bid was received and the council tabled any award pending further review and potential solicitation of additional bids or alternative measures.
