Grantsville P&Z elects officers, approves minutes and hears staff updates on roads and upcoming projects

The Grantsville Planning and Zoning Commission used its Jan. 6 meeting to elect officers, approve meeting minutes and receive staff updates.
With a quorum present, commissioners elected the chair (the commissioner who accepted nomination during the meeting) and nominated Jason McGill for vice chair; both nominations were accepted and approved by voice vote. The commission voted to approve the Dec. 16, 2025 meeting minutes.
Staff presented a drone-produced before-and-after video of Matthews Lane repaving submitted as part of a nomination to the Utah Asphalt Pavement Association for project-of-the-year recognition. Staff said the award decision would be announced around Jan. 15. Staff also reminded commissioners to complete required training and noted a spring UAPA conference April 8–10 in Bryce Canyon; staff previewed ongoing conversations with prospective developers, including hotels and other projects, encouraging commissioners to stay tuned.
Commissioners also discussed lessons from a recent contentious meeting and emphasized the importance of clearly explaining the commission's code-based reasoning to the public to reduce misunderstanding and social-media conflict. The meeting adjourned by voice vote.
