Orderville Town Board accepts Nov. canvass after brief vote

The Orderville Town Board voted to accept the official canvass of the November election during a brief special meeting, a board member said. A member moved to accept the results "as presented," and the board voted verbally in favor, after which the chair declared the motion carried.

The board heard turnout figures from a presenting member: 430 registered voters and 297 ballots cast, or roughly 69.1 percent turnout. The presenter read specific tallies for several contests: for mayor Ray Spencer received 194 votes and Lyle Holding received 96; in other local contests the presenter reported Susan Eslin 209, David Johnson 120 and Shanda Frost 167. Several other candidate names were read but portions of that sequence were garbled in the record.

"I move that we accept the results as presented," said Speaker 3, identifying the motion the board considered. The motion was seconded; a verbal "aye" vote was recorded and the chair announced the motion carried. Board members asked whether an absent member (identified in the discussion only as Sean) needed to sign; members confirmed a majority was sufficient and proceeded without the absent member's signature.

The board also corrected a clerical misspelling on the sign-in sheet before finalizing the canvass paperwork. The special meeting adjourned shortly after the canvass was accepted.

The board did not place additional debate on the record; the canvass acceptance was a formal, single-item action of the special meeting. If signatures or official records are required by county election procedures, the board indicated they will follow up to ensure the canvass documentation is properly executed.
