Orderville council sets Feb. 3 public hearing to amend 2026 budget; approves bills and employee statement

Orderville’s town council voted to set a public hearing for Feb. 3 at 7:00 p.m. to take public comment and consider amendments to the town’s 2026 budget, and approved routine bills and an employee participation statement before adjourning.

During a budget-status update, Brianna (staff) reported that some budget lines are over their current appropriation and would need amendments. She said the town had expected a $220,000 trails grant that will not be awarded and that police and streets/roads budget lines will require changes. In her remarks the transcript records large numbers; she said the current 2026 budget figure as transcribed was "1,000,707,147,700 dollars" and that after adjustments the budget will be about "$1,689,500." The council discussed those figures and noted the numbers will be reconciled in the amendment process and in advance of the Feb. 3 hearing.

Speaker 3 moved to set the date and time for a hearing to amend the 2026 budget for Feb. 3 at 7:00 p.m.; Speaker 9 seconded the motion and the council voted to approve the hearing date and directed staff to publish required notice so the public may review and comment. Later in the meeting Speaker 3 moved to approve the bills listed in the packet; Speaker 2 seconded and the council voted to approve them.

Near the end of the agenda the council considered an annual participation/commitment statement for employee Earl (recorded on the agenda). Speaker 3 moved to approve the statement; Speaker 9 seconded and the motion passed with an affirmative voice vote. The presiding officer then adjourned the meeting.

Next steps: staff will prepare the budget amendment packet, update and reconcile line items ahead of the Feb. 3 hearing, publish the hearing notice, and bring any additional documentation the council requests.
