Castle Valley road crew: Castle Creek culvert near delivery, traffic impacts expected next month

Castle Valley staff told the Town Council on Dec. 17 that the Castle Creek culvert project has cleared a Section 7 review, the culvert is in manufacturing and a delivery window is expected in the coming weeks.
A road-department speaker said engineers are working through final changes from the NRCS review and that staking and site work could begin shortly after delivery. "The culvert is in the manufacturing stage. It is not ready to be delivered yet. That's probably at least a few weeks out until that's ready to be shipped," the road speaker said. Council members and staff estimated construction could require several weeks of work; contractor estimates discussed during the meeting ranged from roughly 1' to 4 months, with an engineer-provided target of about eight weeks when possible.
Councilmembers emphasized the need for timely public information about road closures, detours and commuting impacts once a firm schedule is available. Staff also updated the council on equipment availability (a loader currently out of service) and routine winter work such as cold-patch plans and dust control; staff cautioned that dust-suppression spraying in freezing conditions may be limited and could require coordination with the fire department for equipment storage.
Next steps: staff will confirm delivery and construction schedule with contractors, publish a public-information notice on road closures and travel impacts, and update the council when a firm timeline is available.
