The Richfield City Council received a report from the Planning Commission summarizing actions taken at its Oct. 1, 2025 meeting. The commission approved a conditional-use permit for a storage container at 560 North Main (applicant Ted Christiansen) and a home-based woodworking business for Colin and Tracy Balch. The panel also approved a conditional-use permit for a sandwich shop in the strip mall near Walmart (to become a Jersey Mike’s) and reviewed plans for a proposed hotel just north of Steve’s, requesting that a sidewalk and an ADA ramp be included to connect to a nearby bike path.
Commissioners discussed concerns about high-density development in the RM‑11 zone and said they will pursue an amendment to place a cap on RM‑11 to avoid “acres and acres of townhomes.” They also discussed reserving self-storage facilities for manufacturing/industrial zones and scheduling a public hearing on that amendment.
No council votes on zoning amendments were recorded at the meeting; the commission stated it will return with drafts and a recommended public hearing process for the council to consider.
