Power board recommends Kachina Ridge three‑phase line extension to city council

The Hurricane Power Board voted to recommend the Kachina Ridge power line-extension plan to the city council after staff reviewed feasibility, easements and a distribution reconfiguration plan.

Staff said the proposed work would provide a full three-phase circuit to serve development on the Kachina Ridge plateau, connecting the new line at State Route 9. The developer (Kent) confirmed feasibility work and easements are in place for most of the alignment. Staff described a plan to rebalance existing circuits and install a few air-break switches at an estimated $50,000 in distribution reconfiguration costs to avoid a larger, more expensive dual-circuit build.

After questions from board members about unit counts and land use, a board member moved to recommend the plan to city council and another seconded the motion. The motion carried on a voice vote with no opposition recorded. Staff said, if the power-board recommendation is approved by the council, the developer must then obtain council approval and the project team will hire an engineer and contractor to construct the line; the utility will review and approve contractor selections and perform the planned reconfiguration work.

The board’s recommendation is advisory and will be delivered to the city council for final approval under applicable development and public-notice requirements.
