Council gets updates on 5350 road repairs, Romer Park progress and park safety

On the 5350 road project (referred to in the meeting as 53/5350), staff said contractors uncovered substandard roadway subbase in some locations and removed and replaced about 7 to 9 feet of subbase where necessary. The city apologized for delays and said asphalt paving was likely the following Tuesday or Wednesday, weather permitting. Staff also acknowledged that some residents had not received timely notifications and said they would reiterate communication protocols to contractors.
On parks, staff reported complaints about e-bikes being ridden on grass and causing damage; the concern was forwarded to the sheriff's crew for enforcement consideration. Officials also noted a previous signage error discouraging cardboard sledding and said they would clarify messaging.
Romer Park phase work is progressing: bases for shade structures have been delivered, concrete work and tree/shrub staking are underway, and staff anticipate a spring ribbon-cutting. The council also confirmed tentative dates for a November retreat and reviewed upcoming meeting dates and office closures (Columbus Day, Veterans Day).
No formal votes were taken on these administrative items at the meeting; staff were asked to continue project oversight and return with details as needed.
