Commission amends municipal fire-protection agreement, raises payment to Altamont
Summary
Duchesne County approved an amended fire-protection agreement and authorized the chair to sign after agreeing to increase the reimbursement amount for Altamont to bring it closer to parity with other municipal contracts.
The Duchesne County Commission reviewed and approved amendments to interlocal fire-protection agreements with municipal partners, including a requested increase to the payment amount for Altamont.
Staff noted that when the county originally established protection-region agreements, municipalities were asked to respond at cost; some jurisdictions included contingency amounts that produced disparities. County staff proposed increasing Altamont’s reimbursement from about $35,056.00 to $40,005.60 to better align the town’s contract with other agreements.
Commissioners discussed the scope of coverage the county provides (including highway extrication along high-traffic corridors) and debated whether a slightly larger increase would be appropriate; one commissioner suggested an additional increment but the commission agreed to the amended number proposed in staff’s packet and authorized the chair to sign the agreement.
The motion to approve the fire-protection agreement as amended carried by voice vote. The county clerk and staff were directed to update the signature page wording to reflect the town designation and to circulate the finalized agreement for signature.
Next steps: staff will update contract documents and execute the amended agreement with Altamont.
