Tom and others said Mayor Allen's session on meeting decorum and using Robert's Rules effectively was especially well received. "[It] was the highlight of the event," one council member said, and attendees reported the presentation sparked useful discussion about running meetings "professionally, not politically."
Members also flagged a 45‑minute fraud-prevention session run by the Local Government Trust as immediately usable for staff training. One council speaker described examples of municipal fraud, noting the session cited a case in which cities lost large sums over time, and asked staff to obtain the training materials for local use.
Councilors said they used the conference to raise city issues with regional providers. "Tom and I actually got a chance to talk to Republic Services or garbage people," one council member said; another described a productive hour-and-a-half conversation with a Republic regional manager about countywide garbage concerns.
Council members encouraged staff to follow up on conference materials and to consider sharing state survey links (on recycling and other topics) in the city newsletter. No formal policies or expenditures were adopted at the meeting; members asked staff to pursue training material access and any necessary follow-up with regional service providers.
