Jake (staff) explained the additional work to the council, citing an inline gate valve installation, a waterline casing under a storm drain and extra roadway removal and replacement as the principal causes for the added costs. "We went ahead and moved forward with those," Jake said, explaining staff proceeded to keep the project moving and is following purchasing policy that requires council approval when change orders exceed 10% of the contract.
Councilmember Cheryl confirmed the figures during questioning: the original contract was $508,000 and the additional amount totaled $70,540, resulting in the final cost of $579,508. Staff stated the project remains within the capital project fund budget set aside for water and storm drain work.
A motion to ratify the change orders was made and seconded; the council approved by voice vote with no further discussion. Staff indicated the remaining budget will stay in the capital project fund for future water and storm-drain needs.
