Fire chief announces training, $5,000 grant for turnout gear; council recognizes local volunteer

The Emery Fire Chief (S7) told the council Dec. 10 that nine department members have signed up for countywide Fire I and II training starting in February and that the course, testing and skills evaluation will likely take about a year to complete.
S7 said the department was awarded a $5,000 license-plate grant reimbursement that will cover two sets of turnout gear in line with NFPA replacement schedules: “It’s a $5,000 grant reimbursement. So that’s, 2 sets of turnouts that keeps us in line with NFPA regulations,” S7 said.
Council also recognized Adrian Allen as citizen of the month for volunteering to maintain the local shooting range, remove garbage and pursue grants from DWR and DNR to support maintenance. S1 said Allen volunteered to collect trash weekly and had identified potential grant funding in the $5,000–$10,000 range.
Staff and councilors reviewed upcoming events: Tinseltown on the 19th at 6 p.m., bingo on the 17th, and no craft night for the month; staff said a new water reader is expected by February.
The council did not take further formal action on the training or grant at the meeting; S7 presented the updates and council noted support for training and equipment replacement.
