Trenton council adopts updated cemetery rules and fee schedule

The Trenton Town Council voted to adopt updated cemetery information and guidelines that set operation hours, headstone standards and a fee schedule for residents and nonresidents.
Speaker 6, who presented the document described as a final draft, said the cemetery grounds will be open daily from dawn to dusk and listed specific holidays and days when graveside services will not be permitted. "Graveside services or interment shall not be conducted on Sunday, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Friday before Memorial Day... or Christmas Day," Speaker 6 read from the draft.
The document lays out rules on plot ownership and headstone placement and dimensions. Speaker 6 said headstone concrete base maximum sizes are defined (for single and double headstones) and that monuments must be placed on the west side of a grave; shepherd's hooks are exempt from the height restriction. The draft also notes that removal of pre-set headstones may be necessary before burial and that the town assumes no responsibility for damage to headstones that extend above ground.
The council adopted a fee schedule included in the guidelines: Speaker 6 presented per-plot and opening/closing fees and described differential pricing for residents and nonresidents (the transcript records two-spot plots at $300 for residents and $1,200 for nonresidents, and other opening/cremation fees presented in the draft). The presenter also said the town no longer has a sexton and listed 'McCall' as cemetery contact for interment coordination.
Speaker 6 moved to approve the Trenton Cemetery information and guidelines; Speaker 8 seconded and the council approved the motion by voice vote. The document was presented as effective 12/02/2025, and the town clerk was instructed to publish the policy and notify monument companies and families about the new rules.
Council members said the guidelines aim to preserve the cemetery's appearance, protect monuments during maintenance, and provide clear, standardized fees and processes for interments.
