Tow‑service seeks overflow parking permit after tornado removed on‑site storage; council hears cleanup and fencing plans

Aaron Cook, general manager of Boland Services, told the council on Nov. 24 that after a tornado demolished a nearby repair facility the firm is facing a temporary space shortage and seeks authorization to use an adjacent lot at 5 Industrial Drive for overflow parking of towed vehicles. Cook said the insurance carrier declared the building a total loss, the company has been 'overrun' by vehicles and on some weekends may need space for 50–100 cars.

Cook described steps the company is taking to improve the site’s appearance and operations if the permit is approved: repairing and replacing fencing (including enclosing the damaged section), adding lighting as required by the city, installing new dumpsters and scheduling sweepers, and using a barcode system to track vehicle movements. He said Boland Services does not conduct salvage or repair work on the overflow lot and that the goal is to create orderly short‑term holding to facilitate vehicle retrieval or lawful disposal.

Council members noted Industrial Drive’s industrial zoning and expressed support for the concept while confirming that lighting, screening and fencing requirements would be addressed through building and zoning reviews. No final permitting action was recorded at the Nov. 24 meeting; the public hearing closed after council questions.
