County meeting roundup: claims, drainage approvals, veterans services and social-assistance updates
Summary

At the Nov. 25 regular session, Franklin County supervisors handled routine administrative business and received program updates.
Procedural votes: The board approved the meeting agenda and last week’s regular session minutes by voice vote. County claims presented for approval were moved, seconded and approved without discussion. The board also approved drainage claims dated 11/18 and drainage minutes after a brief procedural exchange about order of business.
Budget workshops: Supervisors discussed scheduling January budget workshops and compared prior-year formats, with a leaning toward half-day sessions during the week of Jan. 12–15; staff were asked to circulate worksheets and proposed schedules to department heads.
Veterans services: Adam reported on veterans picnic attendance, use of an enclosed shelter, and plans to use Clinton Pulley funds to take veterans on a bus trip to Algona Dec. 9 (POW Museum, nativity scene and ag/motorsport museum). The board discussed staffing considerations and that replacements for departed employees would be evaluated after the new year.
Social services/general assistance: Julie (assistance administrator) raised a question about approving cremation assistance prior to death. The board discussed Hardin County’s practice and indigence criteria (no property, minimal bank funds, no life insurance). The consensus was to continue the county’s prior practice of approving assistance after death; staff will continue handling applications case-by-case.
Other items: Staff reported on meeting attendance for various boards and commissions, Franklin County Tourism activities including a photo contest, and minor facilities updates (memorial bench and tile repairs). The board closed the meeting with Thanksgiving wishes and routine adjournment preparations.
No substantive policy changes were adopted during this session; most items were procedural motions or staff updates.
