A $100 fine per violation was included as enforcement language.
Commissioners discussed enforcement mechanics and repeat-offender responses; staff noted removal and potential destruction is authorized under the policy and recommended an administrative process including an initial warning letter and removal if compliance is not achieved. Commissioners also debated whether to cap the number of signs, distance between signs and how the sheriff’s office would be involved in enforcement; the ordinance contains exemptions for emergency vehicles and local deliveries.
Commissioner Judd moved to approve the ordinance and Commissioner Killian seconded; the motion passed by voice vote. Staff and the county attorney were asked to finalize the ordinance text and an implementation policy for sign storage/retrieval and to list where removed signs will be held.
