Bluff schedules eight ordinances for joint public hearing Oct. 28

Erin, in a recorded briefing to the Bluff Planning and Zoning Commission on Oct. 16, said the town has noticed eight items for public hearing at a joint meeting with the town council scheduled for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28. "We have a total of 8 items that need to go to public hearing," Erin said in the recorded message.
The items listed were: adoption of a renewable energy ordinance; an RV ordinance; general plan amendments; adoption of a Bluff Cemetery ordinance; an engine brake ordinance; a commercial vehicle idling ordinance; consideration of amendments to the land use clearance ordinance (including possible removal); and amendments to the building code ordinance. Erin said each draft was posted separately under Government > Public Notices on the town website so that reviewers could comment on an individual item if needed. She added the joint meeting will use a different Zoom link and that revised versions of drafts will be posted with update dates if changes are made before the hearing.
Why it matters: The eight items include code changes that affect land use, utilities and public safety; several explicitly touch both planning and zoning and council responsibilities, which is why staff recommended the joint hearing format. Erin told commissioners the joint forum will allow the public to comment to both bodies and for each board to later identify which edits fall to which body.
Other details: Erin also noted two midterm vacancies on planning and zoning after one member moves to town council and another resigned. Letters of interest are due Friday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m., and commissioners plan to conduct interviews at their Nov. 6 meeting and forward recommendations to the council for appointment.
Next steps: Draft ordinances will remain posted online and the commission and council will hear public comment at the Oct. 28 joint hearing. Commissioners said they will attend when possible to hear the public's questions and explanations staff provide before public comment.
