WALSBURG, Utah — Town staff reported March 6 that the Main Canyon Road phase 2 project is seeking $441,900 in additional federal funds and that the request has moved forward from a technical subcommittee to a full joint highway committee review.
Alicia O'Driscoll (standing in for absent engineer Troy Osler) told the council that the technical subcommittee requested the funds and approved them for fiscal year 2025; the joint highway committee will meet April 18 in St. George to consider the recommendation. The next step is for the statewide transportation commission to amend the statewide transportation improvement program; that meeting is scheduled for May 8, at which local staff expect the funds to be added and the project advertised.
On the CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) side, Walsburg Town has applied for a stormwater drainage grant. The town has been working with the state office and submitted a revised application; the state will complete rating and ranking of applications on March 26, and towns will find out award decisions after that process.
Officials described the process and timetable and said they are confident the recommendation from the technical subcommittee will be adopted by the full committee. Councilors asked no substantive questions beyond timetable details; staff will continue to track the funding milestones required before the project can be advertised and bid.
