Google Fiber presentation scheduled for Jan. 6 as council reviews license agreement

Councilmember Lance said the presentation and license documents are posted in the working SharePoint folder for the Jan. 6 packet and urged colleagues to review them and prepare questions.
Council discussion clarified that residents would not be charged for infrastructure installation unless they subscribe, that sign-up can occur at any time, and that Google’s rollout model includes a fiber line to the street and small utility boxes serving one or two homes. Lance said that, if the council and city attorney are satisfied, construction could begin in early Q2. The council also discussed possible revenue or franchise arrangements in the license agreement and assigned staff and the attorney to review whether revenue-sharing or franchise-tax provisions are included.
No binding decision was made; the council simply scheduled the presentation and signaled it expects a staff/attorney recommendation once the license agreement returns from review.
