Hurricane City welcomed a new police officer at its Nov. 20 meeting when Mayor (speaker 1) and Chief Yates introduced and swore in Officer Hagen Oliver.
Chief Yates noted Oliver was hired Nov. 3 after serving previously with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office; Oliver’s wife Kendall joined him onstage for the badge pinning. Chief Yates praised Oliver’s attitude and said he expected Oliver to be a strong fit for the department’s community policing goals.
Police staff also updated the council on hiring: three candidates are in background checks and staffing continues to be a focus. Chief Yates said the department will transition new uniforms from a lighter French blue to navy blue for future hires because suppliers have limited availability of the former color.
The mayor welcomed Officer Oliver and thanked public‑safety staff for their work.
