Eureka City Council voted Nov. 17 to adopt an ordinance to vacate an alley/road and transfer right-of-way to an adjacent property owner in order to formalize access to Jarvis Street.
Council member who introduced the motion described the action as correcting a roadway alignment that had existed for decades and said the ordinance would make the change official. The motion to adopt "ordinance number 20 25 dash 11 dash 17 dash 2 or 0 2" (as read on the record) was moved and seconded on the floor; the council voted unanimously to approve the ordinance.
Why it matters: The change resolves a longstanding access/alignment issue between a residence and garage and updates city right-of-way records. Staff said the ordinance implements a straightforward exchange and will be followed by administrative recording.
Whats next: Staff will administratively record the vacation and exchange per the ordinance language and notify affected property owners.
