Morrow County commissioners approve zoning change for 3970 State Route 229 in Marengo

MORNING — The Morrow County Board of Commissioners approved a zoning amendment for property at 3970 State Route 229 in Marengo that rezones a combined parcel for commercial use, county staff said.

Shelley, a county staff member who presented the item during a public hearing, said the property owner, identified in the transcript as Hilla Clinton, had combined four parcels and that part of the land remained zoned residential. "This zoning amendment is for Hilla Clinton at 3970 State Route 229," Shelley said, adding that regional planning recommended approval to bring the merged lot into compliance with the county zoning resolution.

No members of the public spoke during the hearing when the chair asked for comment. After the presentation, a board member moved to approve the zoning change "as brought forward by the zoning commission," the motion was seconded and the chair called the roll. Mason, Abraham and Siegfried recorded affirmative votes and the motion carried.

County staff noted that the change follows the recommendation from regional planning and is intended to align the combined parcel’s official zoning with its commercial use. The record indicates the owner combined four parcels; the board did not receive opposing testimony at the hearing.

The commissioners recessed following the vote and later adjourned the meeting. The decision takes effect under normal county procedures for zoning amendments unless additional administrative steps are required.
