Morrow County commissioners adopt suicide-prevention proclamation, approve routine bills and set county auction

The Morrow County Board of Commissioners adopted a proclamation declaring September 2025 as Morrow County Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and approved a slate of routine financial and administrative items at their regular session.

The proclamation, read into the record, cites Ohio Department of Health figures and states that "22 Morrow County residents died from suicide between 2020 and 2023," and reports a rate "of 16.2 per 100,000 residents," described in the proclamation as higher than the statewide average. Commissioners voted to adopt the proclamation on a recorded roll call.

On fiscal business the board approved minutes from the Aug. 27 regular session and voted to approve bills 1–174. The board also approved multiple transfers and payments, including an airport federal-grant payment for economic development and a purchase-of-service agreement renewal between the juvenile court and The Village Network. A payment for Kummer Ditch maintenance was approved as well.

County administrator Jamie reported that a bid opening for a correctional-facility-related project received no bids; staff said they will ask engineering consultant DLZ about extending the bid acceptance period. Jamie also announced a county-wide auction scheduled for Sept. 29 at 5 p.m. to liquidate about nine sheriff cruisers, four MCAT transit vehicles and assorted furniture; Sheriff Hinton offered auctioneering services.

The board recessed and returned to continue business during the meeting otherwise composed of routine approvals and announcements.
