Morrow County staff outline coroner move logistics and 18‑month estimate for jail renovation

The same staff member described a pre-bid walkthrough for the jail renovation with contractors and subcontractors and noted that a state inspection would take place the same day. "We have about 14 people there of general contractors and subs," the staff member said, adding that the sheriff and deputies will help conduct tours so jail staff can coordinate with the construction firm and state inspectors.
On procurement timing, staff said bids will be received with a public bid opening set for Sept. 3 at 9:30 a.m. "DLZ will take back all of the bids and review" before the county makes a recommendation, the staff member said. The county provided an estimated construction timeline of roughly 18 months for completion and said the majority of construction activity is expected in 2026.
Officials discussed whether to delay major work until after winter, with staff noting start dates will depend on contractor selection and seasonal constraints. No contract award or formal approval of a construction company was made during the meeting; the county said it will return with a recommendation after DLZ’s review of bids.
The meeting concluded without further action on the renovation beyond the procurement timetable and the coroner move logistics update.
