The Select Board voted June 25 to approve an extension of the town's current solid-waste disposal contract with E.L. Harvey and Sons through Aug. 5 to maintain operations at the transfer station and preserve the contractor's permit. Town staff said the extension will provide time to finalize a successor contract; the contract currently serves in part as the operator's permit under town bylaw Article 22.
Board members praised the town manager and staff for lengthy negotiations with the contractor and cautioned against long extensions absent substantial progress. The motion authorized the town manager to execute the extension; the vote was by roll call and carried unanimously.
Staff said negotiating a successor contract remains a priority and that the extension is intended to preserve service continuity while both parties finalize terms. The item was described as time-sensitive because the current contract was due to expire at the end of the month.
