Westborough planning board continues several hearings, hears updates on transit, sewer and zoning

At its Aug. 6 meeting the Westborough Planning Board continued several public hearings, accepted staff updates and made committee appointments.
Continuances and procedural motions: the board voted to continue the Albrecht Auto Group hearing for 80 Turnpike Road to Aug. 20 and continued site plan hearings for 101–105 Flanders Road (to Aug. 20) and 165 Flanders Road (to Sept. 17) because of peer-review timing and anticipated quorum constraints. Members noted the need to confirm member availability before critical hearing dates.
Staff updates and planning projects: planner Jenny said the Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) will lead a transit service analysis for Westborough, Shrewsbury and Northborough and will hold stakeholder meetings to evaluate needs including fixed routes versus micro‑transit. The DPW’s sewer Capital Wastewater Management Plan (CWMP) has been completed; staff recommended inviting the DPW director to present to the planning board in September. Two zoning articles are planned for October town meeting (a highway/business zoning concept and a consolidation/clarification of inclusionary zoning language); the board scheduled initial presentations in September and left public hearings open for additional sessions.
Downtown plan, staffing and committees: staff reported a nearly final downtown plan draft and a near-final housing production plan; the assistant town planner position was posted and the town is recruiting for an economic development coordinator. The board discussed public outreach for the planning-board vacancy and decided to publicize openings more widely. Several planning-board appointments to subcommittees (open space, capital expenditures, land prioritization) were confirmed or discussed.
The board closed with recognition of departing member Peter (Peter Bouchard) and adjourned.
