Danville CCSD 118 approves discipline improvement plan; board backs expanded implicit-bias training

Associate Superintendent Marquisha Parker told the board that the Illinois State Board of Education identified CCSD 118 in the top 20% for one or more exclusionary-discipline metrics for three consecutive years, prompting a required district discipline improvement plan.
Parker said the district's discipline incidents rose "from 24 to 25," and that the plan emphasizes a proactive approach focused on staff training and increased student supports. "We are confident that our efforts will improve our discipline," Parker said, and asked the board to approve submission to the state by the Feb. 3 deadline.
Board discussion included implicit-bias training through the Ed Leaders Network; Parker said the district will expand that training and add sessions, including one from Dr. Tan at the University of Illinois, to its professional development calendar.
The board approved the discipline improvement plan by roll call, 6-0.
