The Forest Lake City Council approved change order number 1 for phase 1 of the median refresh project, swapping two plant species for alternatives that staff and the beautification committee said will provide longer-lasting color and curb appeal.
Staff reported the contractor repriced the revised planting plan and found the change produced a net reduction in cost of $557.29. "It ended up to be a reduction of $557.29," staff said, and confirmed the grower has the plants in stock so the change will not delay the planned start date.
Councilmembers supported the change order as a modest savings and a design improvement; one councilmember said the original species "survived" but did not present strong seasonal color. A motion to approve change order number 1 was moved, seconded and adopted by voice vote.
Staff said the work is still expected to begin around the planned mid-September start and that the contractor cooperated to make the substitution without delaying the schedule.
