Kaneland presents PACE framework to board, says district is compliant and expanding dual‑credit options

Kaneland CUSD 302 student-services staff presented the PACE framework — the state’s Postsecondary and Career Expectations guidance — to the board and described how the district is implementing the plan and expanding opportunities beyond minimum requirements.
"The PACE framework...stands for post secondary career expectations," Doctor Horn told the board, saying the framework requires districts to help students develop personalized four‑year plans, provide ninth‑grade CTE orientation courses, and encourage students to become concentrators who pursue a focused career cluster by grades 11–12. Horn said the district has been working on the plan since the 2022 statute (public act referenced during the presentation) and that Kaneland offers a broad set of AP, advanced-placement, CTE and emerging dual‑credit courses.
Board members asked for clearer language for families around terms such as "concentrator." Horn replied that a concentrator is a student who moves beyond introductory CTE classes to take a sequence of credit‑bearing courses in a single cluster, sometimes via the Fox Valley Career Center or through dual‑credit arrangements with Waubonsee Community College.
Administrators said the district is compliant and is pursuing expansion of dual-credit offerings with Waubonsee, and noted measures for accountability such as a "Freshman on Track" indicator and monitoring of CTE concentrators and AP/dual-credit enrollments. No board action was required; the presentation was informational to increase community awareness before broader implementation and curriculum planning.
