Kaneland updates Ignite personalized-learning outreach; high-school expansion enrollment below earlier targets

District staff updated the board on Kaneland Ignite Personalized Learning Academy recruitment and next steps. Staff described multiple outreach efforts (in-person info nights, a virtual session, student and parent surveys, parent coffees, classroom visits and staff tours) and said a student survey identified candidates likely to succeed in a personalized-learning environment.
The presenter said enrollment as of Nov. 22 showed 6 committed high-school registrants, below the earlier planning estimate of about 25 students. Elementary and middle-school Ignite sections had mixed changes: the third-through-fifth grade section had 21 projected next-year students as fifth graders roll to Empower (6-8), while the middle-school Empower section showed an increase. Given the lower-than-expected high-school commitments, administration said it would re-evaluate high-school delivery models and look for more sustainable, attractive options to support a possible 2026 launch.
Staff also described communication steps taken: direct emails to parents whose children self-identified as interested, talking points for teachers before conferences, yard signs to accelerate interest and informational tours for staff and families. The board received the update as information; no action was required.
