The Kaneland CUSD 302 Board of Education voted unanimously to approve Change Order #3 for summer 2024 health and life-safety work to install a set of hollow metal doors at Blackberry Creek Elementary.
Director of Building and Grounds Mister Peyton said a miscommunication led to an incorrect door being delivered, and the contractor offered the correctly sized door and installation at about half of the normal cost. Peyton said the package being offered โ two doors, the frame and hardware โ would cost approximately $6,898 under the change order. He described the existing doors as decades old and said replacement would be necessary in the coming years regardless of whether the district waited.
Board members asked whether the doors currently functioned securely and whether the referendum would cover the replacement; Peyton said the doors lock and the referendum plans do not currently include this specific replacement. The board moved, seconded and approved the change order with a 7-0 roll-call vote.
