Director flags Friends book sale, community programs and pending grant as highlights in January report

GUTHRIE, Okla. — At the Jan. 21 meeting of the Guthrie Public Library Advisory Board, Director Cameron reviewed recent programs and Friends-group activity and said she expects additional funding news pending an invoice from the Friends.
Cameron said the library had new floor tile installed and credited the city for emergency funds to fix bubbling and buckling. She thanked Kevin Dixon (city staff referenced on the record) for assistance with the work.
Cameron outlined Friends of the Guthrie Public Library plans: a three-day book sale (described on the record as "the seventh, the February"), a members-only preview on Friday evening, a Saturday sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and, for the first time, a Sunday sale. She encouraged volunteers and said the Friends are experimenting with donation partners and new sale logistics to reduce leftover returned books.
On programming, Cameron highlighted a successful Santa fly-in collaboration with Guthrie Airport that included a cookie contest and photography opportunities. She also described pop-up/library outreach using new laptops and the iLS web interface to allow event checkouts and signups, and said staffing (not technology) is the primary barrier to expanded outreach; she proposed pairing staff and volunteers for events.
Cameron reminded board members she had circulated AOA-grant materials by email and said the grant work was concluded; the remaining administrative step is an invoice list from the Friends so the funds can be paid out. A board member asked that the AOA/ALA grant be added to the next meeting agenda so the board can discuss next steps.
The director also reviewed circulation statistics submitted to the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and said the library ranks highly in juvenile and adult-book circulation among comparable libraries; she cautioned that collection-method changes can create large year-to-year shifts in reported numbers.
The board recorded no formal votes on grants or programming at the Jan. 21 meeting; follow-up items include logistics for the Friends sale, volunteer recruitment and the AOA-grant agenda item for the next meeting.
