Donovan Smith, a consultant with McKinnon Associates, told the joint Inkster meeting the city’s draft master plan is at the final stages after two subcommittee meetings and two written comments. "We did release that plan," Smith said, summarizing edits that add single-family and middle-housing typologies and several minor corrections.
The planning commission opened the statutory public hearing required under the Michigan Planning Enabling Act, heard no speakers on this item, and closed the hearing by motion. Staff said the commission would approve a resolution to forward the draft to city council for distribution and the required public-review period.
The consultant highlighted two substantive pieces of feedback incorporated or under consideration: a resident’s late submission proposing new district types and a developer-subcommittee recommendation to strengthen references to single-family housing and "middle housing" forms. Staff advised commissioners that after the planning commission resolution, city council will take the final adoption action following the required review window.
The commission closed the master-plan hearing and will transmit a resolution recommending distribution to city council for the formal 63-day review period. No amendments or formal votes on the draft text were made at the meeting; the next procedural step is city council consideration.
