Lions Club, library and volunteers report donations, events and heat-pump workshop

Tenino — Several community groups updated the city council on donations, volunteer projects and library programs during the March 25 meeting.
The Tonino Lions Club presented a $500 check to the city to defray the cost of flags along Sussex Avenue and also agreed to buy a new stove for the quarry house after the previous unit was damaged. Bob Wiklend, president of the Lions Club, said the club has served the area for more than 85 years and was "proudly" making the donation to help the city.
Judy Kreiderman described fundraising toward a small dog shelter: she and Rona raised $1,500 from garage sales and community contributions; the Lions Club added $1,000. Judy said volunteers will retrofit space at the public works building into kennels so dogs can be sheltered locally instead of officers taking animals home.
Library staff (Nate Ramos, Timberland Regional Library) asked the city to empty the small trash can near the library entry more regularly, suggested installing a refillable water-bottle station, and promoted a May 6 heat-pump workshop (6:30–7:30 p.m.) for residents. Librarian Ramos said households below certain income thresholds can qualify for 80–100% of equipment and installation costs through county programs and that the library can help residents sign up.
Additional community notes: volunteers have repaired the Technor Schoolhouse roof under a heritage grant and friends of the park are planning Earth Day (April 19) and Family Fun Day (June 21) events. Council thanked volunteers and community groups for their contributions.
Next steps: Staff will coordinate with the Lions Club and volunteers on the quarry-house stove and follow up with library staff on trash pickup and the water-filling station request.
