Gold Star mother donates memorial bench as Tenino plans veterans monument area

A Gold Star mother addressed the Tenino City Council on April 8 to offer a donated granite bench in memory of her son, Gunner, who died while on active duty. The donor (speaker 5) said she purchased the bench from a memorial company in Centralia, paid for an engraved inscription and installation on a concrete slab, and plans placement next to the veterans monument near the quarry pool. She said the bench should be ready before Memorial Day (mid–late May) and that she would coordinate any small ceremony with the VFW.
Mayor (unnamed) said staff will work with the VFW and can temporarily store the bench at the city shop if placement is delayed while the veterans monument is completed. Council members thanked the donor and noted the bench would be a durable tribute and a public amenity.
Separately, Deb Reichelderford (speaker 8) invited the council to an Earth Day volunteer event at Tenino City Park on April 19 at 10 a.m. and said the South Thurston County Historical Society will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the depot museum during Oregon Trail Days on July 26 at 2 p.m.; she requested modest city assistance with moss removal and a gutter repair for the museum roof.
